When to book
The sweet spot is usually within the first two to three weeks after birth, when babies still curl naturally and sleep more readily between feeds. That window is short, so it is better to enquire during pregnancy and pencil a flexible date than to wait until you are home and exhausted.
If your baby arrives early or late, we reschedule. Hospital stays, jaundice checks, and simply needing a few more days are normal. The session should fit the baby, not the calendar.
Studio or home
The studio at 135 Halesowen Rd, Netherton, Dudley DY2 9PY is a controlled space: heating, lighting, and posing surfaces set up for newborns. It suits parents who want classic wrapped portraits and do not want to rearrange a bedroom.
Home sessions suit families who prefer not to travel with a tiny baby, or who want the story of those first days in their own rooms. Birmingham homes, Dudley houses, and apartments all work if there is a clear patch of window light. We bring what we need; you do not have to buy extra kit.
Safety and pace
Newborn posing is slow on purpose. Babies are never forced into positions they resist. A parent is always present. Feeds, nappy changes, and resets are part of the session, not interruptions. Plan for a longer appointment than a standard portrait so nobody is watching the clock.
Siblings can be included. Prepare them with an honest brief: we will take some photos of the baby first, then photos together, and it is fine if a toddler only lasts twenty minutes. Forced smiles are worse than a short, happy set.
What parents usually wear
Soft, simple clothing in muted colours keeps the focus on the baby. Avoid large prints and anything with a big logo. If you want a parent in the frame with skin-to-skin or a close cuddle, wear something easy to adjust. Hair and a bit of concealer are enough; this is not a glam shoot unless you ask for one.
After the session
Images are edited for skin, colour, and a timeless look rather than heavy filters. You will receive a gallery to choose from according to your package. Prints and digital files are discussed when you book so there are no surprises.
