Families book Aza Photography because they want photographs that still look like them in ten years. Alexandra Cretu keeps direction light: a few prompts, then space for the real interactions. These ideas are starting points for sessions in Birmingham, Dudley, and nearby towns — not a shot list you have to complete.
Lifestyle at home
A weekend morning at home is one of the strongest family stories: breakfast, building a den, reading on the sofa, a walk to the end of the street. Homes in Dudley, Harborne, and across Birmingham already hold the details that make a gallery personal — the hallway light, the garden gate, the dog who refuses to sit.
You do not need a styled interior. Tidy the surfaces in one or two rooms and leave the rest. Children relax faster in their own space than in a studio they have never seen.
Parks and easy walks
Choose a park you already visit. Familiar ground means children run, climb, and ignore the camera. Open shade, a path, and a picnic blanket are enough. Combine a short outdoor block with studio portraits in Netherton if you want both movement and a clean indoor set.
Milestones without the theme park
First birthdays, smash-the-cake, and “just us before the new baby arrives” are popular for a reason. Keep themes simple: a cake, a favourite toy, outfits you like. Heavy character branding dates quickly; faces do not.
Extended family can join for part of the session. Grandparents often prefer a seated set and a few walking shots rather than an hour of standing. Say who must be in the group frame so nobody is left out while we are photographing cousins.
Including pets and older children
Pets are family. Bring a lead and a high-value treat; we will not spend the whole hour chasing a spaniel. Teenagers do better with honest direction and a little collaboration (“stand here, look at each other, then you can go back to being bored”). Forced jumping shots are optional.
